Fintech AEO consultant: get cited when your buyers ask AI.
I help fintech, financial data and regulated crypto companies get cited accurately in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. That means measuring where you show up today, fixing how AI models describe you, and building compliance-approved content that answer engines actually quote.
Ranking in Google no longer means owning the answer
Wrong brand, confident answer
In MiCA research I ran through ColdChain, Binance appeared in roughly 76% of AI-generated answers about EU crypto exchanges, despite not holding a valid MiCA licence. Licensed competitors were losing the answer to an unlicensed one.
Authority isn't enough
In August 2026, lseg.com was cited 1,200 times by AI answer engines in its own topic space, with Yahoo (997) and YouTube (850) close behind. A news portal and a video site pulling near-equal share to the London Stock Exchange Group.
Most topics are still open
A 50,000-brand Semrush study found only 15.2% of ChatGPT topic categories had a clear owner, and domain authority predicted the winner only about half the time. In fintech, most buyer questions are still up for grabs.
What a fintech AEO consultant actually does
AEO (answer engine optimization) is the practice of making your brand the source an AI answer is built from, not just a blue link underneath it. For a fintech company, that is a different job from general AEO, because the questions your buyers ask AI are almost all trust questions. Is this provider regulated? Which platforms support this currency pair? What does this API cost compared with the alternatives? Who is the safest option in my country?
AI engines answer those questions by pulling from whatever sources describe you most clearly and consistently. Often that isn't your own site. It is a comparison page, a news aggregator, an outdated review or a competitor's explainer. My job is to find out exactly which sources are shaping the answer about your category, then change the inputs: your own content, your entity data, and the third-party sources the models trust.
I've spent over a decade doing search inside financial data, banking and Web3, including leading global SEO at Refinitiv and SEO at LSEG, and running AI visibility research for crypto and fintech clients through ColdChain. The AEO work I do now is built on that: knowing how regulated companies actually publish, and how AI engines actually retrieve.
The fintech AEO process
AI visibility benchmark
I map the prompt cluster around your two or three core topics (definition, comparison, alternatives, use case and buying questions) and run it repeatedly across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. You get your citation share against named competitors, and a list of every source the engines lean on.
Entity and accuracy audit
In finance, being cited wrongly is worse than not being cited. I check how AI engines describe your licences, jurisdictions, fees, products and availability, then trace every inaccuracy back to the page or profile it came from so it can be fixed at the source.
Compliance-safe answer content
I prioritise content that answers one question precisely and clears legal on the first pass: explainers, methodology pages, licensing and disclosure pages restructured to be extractable, and comparison content written so it survives review. Structured data and a clean information architecture make it easy for both Google and AI engines to lift.
Third-party source strategy
Answer engines cite trade press, analyst coverage, comparison sites, documentation and community discussion. I target the specific sources the benchmark shows the models already trust in your vertical, rather than chasing generic backlinks to move an authority score.
Tracking and widening the lead
The same prompt cluster is re-run on a fixed schedule so you can see topic-level share move, not one lucky screenshot. Once you lead a topic, the goal is margin: a lead wide enough that a faster competitor can't take it within a month.
Fintech AEO by sector
Financial data & market infrastructure
Data vendors, exchanges and analytics platforms where the buyer is an analyst or procurement team asking AI to shortlist providers.
Payments & cards
Payment processors, card programmes and cross-border infrastructure competing on fees, coverage and integration questions.
Trading, brokerage & exchanges
Retail and institutional platforms, including crypto exchanges under MiCA, where AI answers about licensing and safety decide who gets considered.
Stablecoins, RWA & tokenization
Issuers and tokenization platforms in young categories where no brand owns the answer yet, and the first clear source tends to keep it.
Banking, lending & wealth
Digital banks, lenders and wealth platforms where YMYL trust signals and accurate product descriptions matter more than volume.
B2B fintech & infrastructure
Compliance tech, embedded finance and API-first providers selling into long buying cycles that increasingly start with an AI query.
Why fintech AEO is its own discipline
Most AEO advice is written for SaaS and ecommerce. Financial companies face four problems that advice doesn't cover.
Every answer-ready page has to clear compliance
The format AI engines prefer, a direct, specific answer to one question, is exactly the kind of claim legal teams are trained to flag. A fintech AEO programme has to choose topics and formats that can actually ship. I've written about this in more detail in what changes when compliance reviews every page.
Accuracy is a brand risk, not a nice-to-have
An AI answer that gets your licence status, fees or supported countries wrong can send a buyer to a competitor or create a regulatory headache. Fixing misinformation at the source is part of the job, not an optional extra.
Incumbent authority doesn't transfer automatically
Even institutions with decades of domain history get out-cited by aggregators and news sites. That is the gap the LSEG AI visibility analysis shows, and it is also the opening for challengers: you don't need to out-authority the incumbent, you need to out-cover them on the questions that define your category.
The sources that matter are vertical-specific
In crypto, models lean on outlets like Cointelegraph, protocol documentation and community discussion. In fintech, it is analyst reports, trade press and comparison platforms. Knowing which sources shape your vertical's answers is most of the leverage.

If you already have a content team or an SEO agency, you probably don't need another one. What most fintech teams are missing is someone senior who can measure AI visibility properly, decide which questions are worth owning, and get content through compliance in a form answer engines can use. That is what I do directly, without account management in between.
When a programme needs production at scale, I run it through ColdChain, the agency I co-founded. If you are still deciding who to bring in, these are the questions I'd ask any fintech AEO consultant before signing, including me.
Frequently asked questions
What is a fintech AEO consultant?
A fintech AEO consultant helps financial companies get cited accurately in AI answer engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. The work covers measuring where the brand is cited today, fixing how it is described across the sources AI models pull from, and building compliance-approved content that answer engines can extract and quote.
How is fintech AEO different from fintech SEO?
Fintech SEO is about ranking pages in Google. Fintech AEO is about being the source an AI answer is built from. The two share a technical foundation, but AEO is measured by citation share across a set of buyer prompts rather than by keyword position, and it depends heavily on third-party sources, entity consistency and how precisely a page answers a single question.
Can AEO work inside financial promotion and compliance rules?
Yes. The content AI engines cite most in finance tends to be descriptive rather than promotional: how a product works, what a regulatory term means, what fees apply, which licences a company holds. That is also the content that clears compliance review fastest, so a good fintech AEO programme is designed around the review process rather than fighting it.
How long does fintech AEO take to show results?
The baseline benchmark takes a couple of weeks. Engines that retrieve live web results, like Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, can reflect content and source changes within weeks. Shifts in how ChatGPT describes a brand across a whole topic usually take longer and are best measured quarter over quarter.
How do you measure AEO results for a fintech brand?
By citation share across a fixed prompt cluster: the definition, comparison, alternatives, use case and buying questions for each core topic, run repeatedly across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Overviews. Single-prompt screenshots are not a measurement. Share of the topic, and the margin over the next competitor, is.
Do you work with crypto exchanges and stablecoin issuers as well as traditional fintech?
Yes. I work across payments, financial data, trading platforms, crypto exchanges, stablecoin and RWA issuers, and blockchain infrastructure, including companies operating under MiCA in the EU. The regulatory context changes what content can say, but the AEO method is the same.
How much does a fintech AEO consultant cost?
It depends on scope. Most engagements start with a fixed-scope AI visibility benchmark and audit, then move to either an ongoing monthly programme or fractional advisory alongside an in-house team or agency. Get in touch with your market and competitors and I will scope it properly rather than quote a generic retainer.
Find out what AI tells your buyers about you.
Send me your company, your market and two or three competitors. I'll come back with how you're being cited across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Overviews, and where the gaps are.
